Tips

Which Glass? Conservation Glass is the best choice for most all framing projects because it blocks out 98% of damaging light and helps keep your art looking new.
Why Should I Use A Mat? Matting has several purposes. It helps to keep the glass off the art, gives the artwork a better visual space, and lets you highlight certain colors.
What Color Matting? Lighter mats are more neutral and help to bring the artwork forward visually. Darker matting is more intense and gives the artwork a more introspective look.
Does It Need To Be Acid-Free? Regular, paper mats are acidic. They will cause your artwork to fade, turn brown, become brittle, and if left, could ruin your artwork. Always use acid-free matting.
Take Out That Cardboard! Don't use cardboard as a backing for your artwork. Cardboard is acidic and can cause serious damage to your art. Try to always use acid-free foamboard or matting when you do your framing.
Will It Fade? Any visible light (not just direct sunlight) will cause your artwork to fade. Use Conservation Glass to help prevent your memories and cherished art from disappearing.
Should I Put Glass On My Needlework? It's always safer to put glass on fabric art. Dust can soil the fabric and light will fade it. And unfortunately, cooking grease doesn't stay in the kitchen.
Hanging Your Own Art... When mounting your own art, just two small pieces of acid-free linen tape at the top is all you need. By taping your art all the way around the back of the mat, it will actually cause the artwork to buckle. If you do it just at the top, it should stay relatively flat.
